BIRDS@Work employs local young people as crew members on ecologically minded landscaping and restoration projects. This program serves as an entry point into the green collar workforce, providing training and networking opportunities that allow youth to access this promising economic sector. In order to learn, crew members participate in all aspects of the process, from the design phase, to materials acquisition, to billing and invoicing. On any given day, you might find us around the community pulling invasive weeds, turning compost, rehabilitating eroded waterways, or painting murals.
We focus our recruitment efforts towards low-income and otherwise under-served communities in Flagstaff, but welcome people from all circumstances and backgrounds, recognizing the myriad benefits of diversity. The youth that make up our crew primarily come from Ponderosa High School and Coconino High School, the Coconino County Career Center and the Coconino County Juvenile Detention Center.
