Your donation helps us connect Northern Arizona youth to nature, build and maintain gardens, and offer job training to young people who need it most. Every dollar makes a real impact.

What Your Donation Supports?

$25 — Seeds for one raised garden bed

$50 — One hour of in-school garden programming

$100 — Veggie seedlings for a classroom hydroponic grow tower

$250 — Garden education materials for one classroom

$500 — Materials and installation for one raised garden bed

$1,000 — Four one-hour garden sessions at one school (includes staff time and supplies)

Want to give an in-kind donation?

We also need non-monetary support, including:

Work clothes and shoes for youth in our BIRDS@Work Jobs Program

Garden materials and supplies (tools, compost, seeds)

Gift cards to local businesses (hardware stores, nurseries, etc.)

We always need volunteers to help maintain school gardens and growing spaces. If you have a specific talent or area of focus, please contact us to find out how you can help.

How can I get involved at Terra BIRDS?

School Garden Support & Garden Workdays: Help plant, weed, and maintain gardens that benefit kids and families.

Share Your Skills with General Volunteering: Got a special talent—like art, carpentry, or composting? Let us know!

In-Kind Donation: Support our programs by donating tools, garden supplies, work clothes, gift cards, or other helpful materials.

Refer us to a Teacher: Know a teacher or school that could benefit from our garden programs? Send them our way! Your referral helps us grow and reach more students with nature-based education.

Terra BIRDS Volunteer FAQS

We welcome individuals, families, school groups, and organizations. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or brand new to it, there’s a place for you in our gardens. There may be certain limitations to volunteering at specific garden sites. Inquire for more information.
- Garden Workdays — Help us maintain school and community gardens by planting, weeding, and building new garden spaces.
- Ongoing Support — Come to help out in a garden on a regular basis during the growing season. Inquire for more information.
Volunteer workdays take place throughout the growing season (spring through fall) at various school and community gardens around Flagstaff. Check out the calendar above this section so your can see upcoming opportunities and locations - also join our email mailing list to stay in the know.
No experience is necessary! We will guide you through what to do. If you’re interested in learning how to garden, this is a great way to get hands-on practice while supporting local schools and youth.
Many of our garden work days are family-friendly. We love seeing kids and families in the gardens. If you’re unsure whether a specific event is right for young children, feel free to reach out and ask.

Yes! If you’re part of a group and would like to organize a team volunteer day, we would love to coordinate with you. Please use the Contact Form or Volunteer Sign-Up Form to reach out and tell us more about your group.

- Comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty
- Gloves (if you have them — we have extras if you don’t!)
- Sun protection (hat, sunscreen)
- A good attitude and readiness to dig in!
You can volunteer as often as you’d like — whether that’s one time, occasionally, or on a regular basis. We’re grateful for any help and love seeing familiar faces in the garden!
